Your data, handled with care

Privacy & Security Policy

Chargisthan builds EV chargers, a charging app, and a management platform. This policy explains — in plain language — what we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the control you keep over it.

At Chargisthan (operated by the Chargisthan team, Jodhpur, Rajasthan), we treat your personal data as something you've lent us — not something we own. This Privacy & Security Policy covers our website, our EV charging hardware, the Chargisthan mobile app, and our charger-management platform (CPMS). By using any of these, you agree to the practices described here.

1 Scope of this policy

This policy applies to everyone who interacts with Chargisthan — website visitors, enquiry and quote requesters, partners and distributors, charger owners and hosts, and drivers who charge at a Chargisthan-managed station. It explains our role both as a data fiduciary (for our own customers and website users) and as a data processor (when we operate charging infrastructure on behalf of a business or site owner).

Where we run a platform for a partner, that partner may have their own privacy terms that apply alongside ours.

2 Information we collect

We collect only what we need to answer you, deliver a product, or run a charging service. That falls into a few buckets:

  • Details you give us — name, email, phone number, company, role, and the message or requirement you send through our enquiry, quote, or partner forms.
  • Account & transaction data — if you use the Chargisthan app or platform: login identifiers (phone number and the one-time passwords sent to your phone or WhatsApp to sign you in), vehicle or fleet details you add, saved sites, wallet balance and top-up history, and charging session records (start/stop time, energy delivered, and cost).
  • Location (mobile app) — with your permission, the app uses your device's approximate and precise location only while the app is open, to show nearby charging stations on the map and give directions. We do not track your location in the background.
  • Camera (mobile app) — with your permission, the app uses the camera only to scan a charger's QR code to start a session. We do not take or store photos or video.
  • Payment information — wallet top-ups are processed by our regulated third-party payment gateway (PayU). Card and bank details are entered on the provider's secure system; we receive only a confirmation and reference (amount, status, reference ID), not your full card or bank credentials.
  • Support & communication data — a record of your calls, WhatsApp messages, emails, and tickets so we can help you and improve service.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser and device type, and pages viewed, gathered automatically to keep the site secure and working.

3 Charger & device data

Connected chargers report operational information so the network stays healthy and billing stays accurate. This typically includes the charger's model and serial/identifier, firmware version, connector status, fault and diagnostic codes, energy metering, and approximate station location.

This is largely equipment telemetry, not personal profiling. Where a session can be linked to an identifiable driver, we treat that combined record as personal data under this policy.

4 How we use your data

We use your information to:

  • Respond to enquiries, prepare quotes, and recommend the right charger or software.
  • Deliver, install, and support the products and services you buy.
  • Operate charging sessions, authenticate users, and produce accurate billing.
  • Monitor charger health, diagnose faults remotely, and push firmware and security updates.
  • Keep our services safe — detecting fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access.
  • Meet legal, tax, warranty, and regulatory obligations.
  • Send service messages, and — only with your consent — product news you can opt out of anytime.

We do not sell your personal data.

6 Cookies & tracking

Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, keep the site secure, and understand — in aggregate — how pages are used so we can improve them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; essential cookies are needed for core features to work.

Any analytics we use is configured to minimise personal data and is never used to build advertising profiles of you.

7 When we share data

We share data only when there's a clear reason, and only to the extent needed:

  • Service providers — installation partners, hosting, payment gateways, and communication tools that work under contract and confidentiality.
  • Site owners & operators — where you charge at a partner's location, relevant session data is shared with that operator for billing and support.
  • Legal & safety — authorities where the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of users and Chargisthan.
  • Business transfers — if our business is restructured, data may move to the successor under the same protections.

8 How we secure data

Security is engineered into our products, not bolted on. We apply layered administrative, technical, and physical safeguards:

🔐

Encryption in transit

Traffic between chargers, apps, and our servers is encrypted with modern TLS.

🛡️

Access control

Least-privilege access, strong authentication, and audit logging for internal systems.

🔄

Signed OTA updates

Charger firmware is updated over the air with integrity checks to block tampering.

🏗️

Segmented infrastructure

Hardened, monitored servers with backups and separation between environments.

ℹ️

No system is ever 100% impenetrable. If a breach ever affects your data, we will act promptly and notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

9 How long we keep it

We keep personal data only as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for — plus any period we're required to retain it for warranty, tax, accounting, or legal reasons. When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or irreversibly anonymise it. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics may be kept longer to improve our products.

10 Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law, including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, you can ask us to:

12 Third-party links & services

Our website, app, or communications may link to third-party sites and tools — for example payment gateways or mapping services. Those parties operate under their own privacy policies, and we're not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to read their terms before sharing data with them.

13 Data location & transfer

We primarily store and process data on infrastructure serving India. Where a trusted provider processes data outside India, we ensure it is protected by contractual and technical safeguards consistent with this policy and applicable law.

14 Changes to this policy

As our products, technology, and the law evolve, we may update this policy. When we make a material change, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, where practicable, give reasonable notice. Continuing to use our services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
